Some people overseas often ask the question why Russian ladies hunt for husbands far from home. First, the present demographic situation in Russia leaves a lot to be desired. Females significantly outnumber men, particularly women over 30. Thus, 30-year-olds are unlikely to encounter a husband in the homeland. If a woman has children, she is also unlikely to get married. Second, there is a high percentage of Russian males addicted to alcohol. Drunkenness does not only destroy men's health but also their families. Third, because of the constantly changing economic situation in the country the majority of Russian women are employed, commonly on a full-time basis, to supplement their husbands' income or sometimes to provide for their families as the only breadwinner. Still, after a hard workday they have a number of duties to perform at home, such as raising kids and keeping house. Rare are cases when Russian husbands can earn enough, so that their wives can stay at home. Russian men usually spend time with friends, chase after other women, drink and do not help about the house. Those who lack confidence, put up with the unaccepted conduct of their husbands, others break off the relationships. Therefore, desperate Russian females leave the motherland in search of stable, secure life overseas. Educated ladies speaking a foreign language, preferably English, find it easier to start up relationships with overseas men, since they overcome ethnic and language differences and adapt to a new life-style faster. Their ability to combine a career with household chores makes them ideal partners for foreign males. Many Russian women assume that foreign males make better husbands, since they are more liberated, family-oriented in comparison with Russian men, and will pitch in with the household chores. They think that they will have a stable economically secure marriage with foreign males. A large number of Russian females also suppose that in the West they will have more opportunities for self-realization and can provide a better childhood for their kids than in the mother country. There are numerous examples of successful marriages with Russian ladies. If the relationships in the family are founded on mutual trust, respect, understanding and affection, ethnic differences will not be a hindrance to create a happy stable family. |
